Families Visit Toobeah In Old fshioned Style

And a  good day was had by all!

The steam train visit to Goondiwindi over the June long weekend has been hailed a success. That’s according to Goondiwindi & District Historical Society President David McMahon. Mr McMahon said the two train trips had over one hundred and seventy (170) people each on board for the hour long trip to Toobeah. “:It was certainly a time when parents, grandparents and children enjoyed the steam train together and something that is a bit out of the ordinary for Goondiwindi.”

Mr McMahon said “The Goondiwindi Historical Society is pleased to have partnered with the Steam Rail people from Warwick to give residents and visitors a unique experience.” Mr McMahon paid tribute to the Toobeah Kindergarten Association committee for providing morning tea and lunch for the train travellers. “This has been another in a long series of successful fund raisers for the Toobeah Kindy so we are pleased to have helped them.”

Mr McMahon said the real success of the steam train weekend was the enthusiasm and willingness of the people of Goondiwindi and district to embrace the visit and literally jump on board. “There was some talk last year that another trip to Toobeah was warranted. We listened and encouraged the steam train people to put on another trip to Toobeah and the decision was justified by a virtual sell out of those trips.”

“The Goondiwindi & District Historical Society looks forward to partnering with the Southern Downs Steam Railway Association into the future so that residents and visitors to Goondiwindi can have a great family day out.” Mr McMahon concluded
